Crossfade, energy drop, or silence between tracks

Understand how we handle transitions between tracks and the limitations.

The transition between tracks is a complex technical challenge that we are actively working to improve.

What We Currently Do

  1. Harmonized Selections – We carefully curate playlists to ensure consistency in energy levels and mood.

  2. Crossfade Feature – A crossfade is applied between tracks to smooth transitions and reduce abrupt changes.

Despite our efforts, guests may occasionally raise concerns about track transitions:

Scenario A – Perceived Energy Drop or Variation

“I feel a drop or shift in energy when one track transitions to another.”

Due to differences in music style, instrumentation, production year, and vocal characteristics, our current crossfade technology cannot replicate DJ-style transitions. However, we are working on enhancements.

We strive for cohesive selections, however, as a result of the shuffle play function, there may be cases where a high-tempo track is followed by a slower one, or vice versa. If this happens:

  • Option 1: Skip the track directly from the Dashboard if both tracks are appropriate but simply play in an undesirable sequence.

  • Option 2: Skip and Blacklist the track from the Dashboard if it feels out of place in the overall experience.

In some cases, we intentionally include a broader range of tempos and moods to create a more dynamic and interesting journey, avoiding repetitive rhythms and constant beats.

Scenario B – Momentary Silence Between Tracks

“I noticed a few seconds of silence between tracks.”

Complete silence between tracks should be extremely rare with your Spectre players. Our creative team meticulously trims all tracks during integration to remove leading and trailing silences, and our crossfade function further prevents silence.

That said, for certain genres—especially those with long, flat intros or outros—some trimming is done manually. In rare cases, a mistake may lead to short silent moments.

If you experience silence between tracks:

  1. Skip and blacklist the track via the Dashboard.

  2. Report the issue to your Spectre account manager with the following details:

    • Player(s) affected

    • Exact date and time of the issue

    • Duration of the silence

    • Frequency of occurrence

    • Confirmation if the track has been blacklisted

We will review and adjust the tracks as needed.

Ongoing Improvements

Please rest assured that our engineering team is continuously working to improve not only the crossfade functionality but also the overall performance of our music delivery system. You will be notified and your players will be updated as soon as enhancements become available.
